Hello Show,
So I have been talking with several other members, and they agree with me that we seem to be lacking in the chant section.
Now I am not a very creative person when it comes to this kind of thing, but I think we need to work out a way to facilitate new ideas. The previous show leaders had mentioned setting aside a time a week where we get pizza and beer and talk it over. Would anyone be down? Or are there any other ideas?
Also, I really felt that our student section was very lacking last night, any ideas on how to get people to get their voices in the game?
I know this semester has been hectic for all the big participators in the show, and I can really appreciate that.
Thanks,
Levi

Everyone seems to agree last night's crowd sucked, but from where I was (visitor's bench side, last row of metal bleachers) I thought the crowd was great. Almost at the quality of USC, and better than LBSU.
I guess the noise can really vary depending on where you sit.

I think the student section was fine, at least from where we were at, the rest of the crowd wasn't as loud as in past games.
If there was any lack of emotion I think it was due to everyone being shocked by the team giving up the lead and being deflated.

I'm down for that. We def do need to bring a few new ones into the rotation.
And about getting more people pumped throughout the game maybe we should do a few more songs during timeouts like Uprising and the one Kyle came up with a few games ago that I forgot. Also maybe just making sure they know no sitting in the student section before the game. Stuff like that.

Personally I'd like to hear 7 Nation Army more. Problem is, I think it starts and half the people don't hear it right so they just start the "OOOOHHHHHH".
BTW, to the SHOWlumni on the other side of the arena, how is ShowHymn sounding at the beginning? I'm screaming so I can;t tell if it's loud. Does it sound like most everyone is doing it?

Bro hymn sounds pretty good. Not everyone is into it up top but the potential for it to be great is there. I still think everyone should be locking arms for it though. I think if everyone lcoked arms and swayed back and forth it would be sooo cool.
The chants.. there were a lot of "let's go aztecs" last night. that's the only thing I noticed. Here are the bread and butters:
Offense: "Let's Go Aztecs *5 claps*" "SD *2 Clap* SU" "To the Hoop Aztecs, To The Hoop *3 Claps" "*7 Claps* Aztecs"
Defense: - Tarzan Boy - Seven Nation Army - Ohhhhhhhhh - Defense *2 Claps* Defense - D - D - D Defense! - WOOOOO!
That's 4 offense and 6 defense. plenty enough to rotate around.
Now if you wanted to add more. Offensively, you could do the Duke cheer and replace it with "Let's go State!" Where you clap along with "Let's Go" and then raise your hand for "State"
Defensively, I would just suggest thinking of more and more songs to chant along to.
I'll post more if I think of them.

i'd be down to meet up and think up new ideas. We should get some new ones going to mix it up a bit more. towards the end of the game i think we did "lets go aztecs" about 10 times in a row.

Another thing, I wasn't there last game due to class reasons, but I do know from the past games that the chants need to be started slower. All chants tend to speed up, and majority tend to get out of hand. I know that I hVe been victim to it also, even with the I believe chant. That chants should be started at a pace where it is almost painful, so that when they do inevitably speed up they are at the pace that they should be normally.

I'm guilty for speeding it up with some over eager Stomp action. I haven't been to a game since you all broke the stands against LBSU - time to get on it on Sunday!

Defensively there is also the Bombaye chant. Unless that was retired at some point. Haven't heard it in awhile.

I also agree that it was a little deflated last night but casual fans sit and stay quiet when their team loses a lead like that. Don't know how many bleacher show members have been up to the cement but it is an entirely different atmosphere. You don't want to jump because it feels like you have no effect which makes standing meh which leads to sitting (not acceptable but it is what happens). Just gotta get them to stand the whole game and get in on the cheers.
However something that was WAY better last game and needs to keep/stay better/good is the foul stomp counts. Idk what the "protocol" was but it was working alrite last game but still not as well as last year. Was there a drum hit from the band last year too?
Also it seems like a lot of people (especially higher up) don't get the to-the-hoop and just go with hoop aztecs hoop so slowing that down would definitely benefit as already mentioned.
I'm down for meeting up. Even if it's just before games while in line, it'll do something good.

"We ain't goin' no where, We ain't goin' no where, We can't be stopped now 'Cause it's Aztecs for life"
Maybe not something to do during gameplay, but I think this would be pretty fun during timeouts. Pretty sure enough people remember it from back in the day (has it really been 10 years?) to make it good.
Also, it would be amazing if BC or Tim did a full cover of it like BC did for Black and Red, but that's probably a pipe dream.

I was originally something Bryan Ransom (director and drummer of the pep band) did on the that was picked up by the show. He would occasionally miss a foul because he would be on the radio working out logistics for an upcoming timeout. People got frustrated when he missed it and took it over. It has been a number of years since he has tried to lead that chant (though it goes back far enough that shouting the numbers used to happen at the same time as the drum hits until some band people realized it would be easier to hear if you yelled in the space between them. /basketball chant history lesson

Ok take this for what it's worth. But sometimes you need show members to just be dorks and talk to new people.
Fliers will definitely help, and what I would do if I wanted to get a point across to students was gather up 3 or 4 show guys, and have us hand out fliers and relay a specific message. Like, we are gonna chant for so and so recruit at such and such minute, or we are gonna sing this song so learn the words. Basically find 3 or 4 super extroverts who are loud and lack any shame and have them tell everyone you can about stuff. You risk being a dick (my brother and I yelled "no sitting in the student section" like angry jackasses every game) but sometimes that's what you need.
Don't be afraid to just go up and down the aisles and announce stuff. If we need to be louder, tell them. Write an impromptu sign that says let's get louder.
The people up top honestly rarely have a clue what's going on. The fliers help to educate but so does verbal assistance.
It sucks that there aren't more effective ways but drink some red bulls before the game and get after it. I know we have some loud assholes in our group, let's utilize your god-given abilities.

Also for new chants, I have a crazy stupid idea for when we are winning big. It would be hilarious and it's a variation of rufio.
I have a few ideas but I think it would be awesome if we sang a really stupid cheesy love ballad type song but then turned it into a crazy loud OOOOOOOHHHHHH.
If anyone is down for this, I'll share my song ideas. Some of the showalumni have heard these ideas and we laugh but maybe we could actually do one in a game. If we do I might piss myself laughing.

For time outs? Lulls?

Uprising was played at the worst possible time last night. Personally it's my favorite and I know a lot of people get pumped when it occurs. The band started it right before a Rahon FT, and we were literally yelling WE WILL BE VICTOOOORIOUS as he was shooting his first... The second time wasn't band supported and was drowned out by the PA. It's usually better timed, but I really think it should be utilized at least once in the first half and once in the second during opposing time-outs.
