Reportedly, part of the Big East Deal would involve 4 Big East Schools playing against SDSU basketball every year to keep our strength of schedule in BBall strong. Not to mention when the Big East renegotiates their media contract next year, they're going to get in the range of $180-252 mil per year (15-18 per school) in TV revenue. The Big East is the last BCS Automatic Qualifying Conference to renew their media deal. I'm pretty sure the SEC was the last conference to do so and they netted a $2 Billion contract from ESPN for 15 years sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=3553033. This move to the Big East for football would be huge for recruiting in all of our sports...not just football and basketball...because we would have constant exposure from huge media markets: Dallas (SMU), Houston (U of Houston), Orlando (U of Central Florida), Tampa (U of Southern Florida, New York Area (Uconn, Rutgers), Ohio (Cincinati) etc And to ad to that, The MWC is falling apart. In the next two years, two or 3 teams will leave. We don't want to be stuck in a conference that has absolutely no chance of getting any sort of bid to a BCS bid. and to echo @tecprideoo our fans are going to fill opposing gyms in the Big West. Every game will feel like a home game. This Big East deal has been part of an ongoing conversation and I'm sure Steve Fisher is fully aware of all the parts in place. I support the Athletic Department and the University's decision on this. You should too. Preach it baby

So be warned, I am fucking pissed off about this entire thing so there will be a lot of cussing involved. HOW CAN STERK THINK THIS IS A FUCKING GOOD IDEA!? We were just starting to get the interest of 4 (and even some 5) star recruits and that is fucking HUGE for the program. Now that we go to the Big West none of those big recruits will give us a 2nd look. This is absolutely fucking retarded. I hate when people argue that we will be like Gonzaga, look at how long it took them to build it and personally I think right now we are already like Gonzaga, BUT heading to the Big West takes us so far back that it is almost like starting over, AGAIN.
Fuck this deal. I don't give a fuck about the TV money we get or the 1 out of conference game against the Big East we will get every year, conference prestige really does matter to recruits and to selection committees. If we get upset in the conference tournament in the Big West then we are Shit out of luck. We are no way in hell getting an at large bid being in that God-awful conference that plays in tiny highschool gyms.
We might as well say goodbye to the hopes of getting the Hamilton's now. FUCK.
Just rambling now but who the fuck cares.
Giving away our basketball program for our very mediocre football program is the most retarded move I have ever seen for any collegiate program.

By the way, Zo Wade just said this on Twitter "I would have NEVER transferred to SDSU if they were in the Big West...I'm an Aztec but its a terrible BBall conference #CounterProductive"
and then Tim said this so obviously he feels the same "can we please not go there zo.... Lol. Sensitive subject this whole big west talk"

Teams that win 25 games for five straight years and make the tournament for 4 straight years like we are going to do as we head into the big west don't need to "start over". It's just crazy to me.
THE MOUNTAIN WEST ISN'T CLOSE TO ANYTHING IT HAS BEEN.
BYU and Utah left. The bottom of our conference has always been bad and now they are the only ones left besides two schools.
Butler, Gonzaga, Memphis, Xavier, all succeed enormously in lesser conferences.
Staying in the mountain west would've been stupid.
Our basketball team isn't going anywhere because of this.
We still offer so many positives. Even you put everything we have on the table, I still think we are the premier destination in the entire west, along with unlv, Gonzaga, ucla and arizona.. Those are the only schools I can envision competing with us. People act like the mountain west is this super enticing thing to recruits.. We play our games on the mountain network.. 98% of recruits have never even heard of that channel.

Imagine if Boise had partnered with UNLV instead of SDSU. Where would that leave the hoops program? The MWC without SDSU (or UNLV, as in our imaginary scenario) is a step down from the WCC.
As to football, without Utah, BYU, TCU and Boise, the MWC is pretty much crap too. Even with the additions of Fresno, Nevada and Hawaii. It's the new WAC.

All I'm going to say is this if Steve Fisher and Tony Bland don't have a problem with it then we shouldn't either.

I agree they are a good deal better, but take those schools out and it would be interesting to see.
Look, I don't want Davis, Riverside or Northridge in the conference.. They offer nothing. But the other schools have potential.
It would be amazing if UNLV joined the BE in football and BW in bball as well. Then there's pretty much no difference at all.

All I'm going to say is this if Steve Fisher and Tony Bland don't have a problem with it then we shouldn't either. For the most part I agree with blue, dora, and avatar, but this is the one and only thing I keeping falling back on... everything else says bad idea and I get a sick feeling in my stomach the more I read but I cant understand why Coach Fisher and his staff in good conscience would allow a program that they have built and invested so much time and energy into to be ruined without so much as a fight. If this move was going to be bad for Aztec's basketball I'm sure Steve Fisher would be the most vocally opposed person to the move. We all know he is not afraid of speaking his mind and just recently proved that with his "we are the best team in the west" interview. So, against my personal gut feelings, perceptions, and thoughts about the "smaller" Big West... In Coach Steve Fisher I must trust! I think he has earned that...

Our new out of conference schedule and tv rights are going to put us on such a greater national stage than the mountain west regular season ever could. The league was a 1 bid league, now if we ever don't win the BW tourney (doubtful) it's gonna be a two bid league. Same as the MW before 2 years ago.
We had an RPI in the 20's twice and were left on the outside looking in. The committee looks at who you beat outside your conference. And now we'll have a chance to prove that.

We got three teams in last year though. I thought the MW was on the rise. If UNLV makes the same move I would love that. But I agree in Fisher I trust. Btw where is the Conference tourney for the BW? No more occupy Vegas?

Look, its a done deal so get over it! We are in the BIG leagues now, the big east and the not so big west. If you dont like that, tough! We have to roll with this and take over those gyms. Basketball will be fine, kids dont come to SDSU because they wanna play in the mountain west its because of our style of play, arena, fans, and our COACH! We didnt lose any of that with this deal. Financially we will make more money in the big east and save money in travel in the big west. As long as we take care of bizness in basketball we should be a powerhouse in that conference and do to the big west what the zags did for the wcc. Basketball is different in that there is a tourney and all we have to do is get in and we can take it from there. Remember back in UNLVs glory days they played in a crap conference too, big west, and won a national championship and were a powerhouse! We will be the same, we OWN the west now, we have beaten arizona, usc, cal, gonzaga, etc all in the past two years. Kids notice when ur program is legit and we have the best fans, coach, and program west of the rio grande!

Furthermore, the mountain west was gonna suck in football with boise and tcu leaving. Basketball wise, yeah losing new mexico and unlv sucks but like it or not football brings in way more money to a school. we had to make this move or we would have been stuck in the WAC part 2 in football. Basketball will survive as long as we keep winning and our fans keep showing up...so its on all of us now! Dont be bandwagon fans! Keep viejas as the most feared venue in the west!

I understand what you guys are saying that the Mountain West was falling in football (quickly at that) but still it's like we are being forced into this (sure forced with a bunch of money) but I don't think I'll be able to say it was a good move until it has happened and until we keep getting good recruits being in the BW. Just too many damn cupcake teams.
Anaheim for a conference tourney is not bad though, go to DLand and then watch the Aztecs kick ass.

My main worry for football now is that Hillman stays till his senior year, I'd love to see him play in the Big East.

I'm starting to come around and the driving force behind this is that BCS v. Non-BCS has forced our hand. We inevitably had to jump at this opportunity or risk being left behind. There is absolutely no bright side for what's being left behind in the Mountain West. They're fucked. Period. Part of it was just venting and worrying about bball program that is surging over the last few years and naturally change could potentially jeopardize that. Nonetheless it's a done deal and we all need to do everything in our power to make the best of this for the bball program. We'll survive and be giving ourselves a chance and the same can't be said for the Colorado States, New Mexicos and Wyomings of the world.
Plus, hey, we're in the fucking BCS baby. That's kinda the "scoreboard" in all this.
