The AD can cause harm to our basketball program in the name of a football only deal with the Big East. We need to create a huge buzz on campus and at the games to let the AD for SDSU know that Fisher has worked too hard, this program has gone too far to have a football move ruin what has been built!
A Big East Football only deal would put SDSU basketball in the Big West or the Big Sky or some smaller one bid conference with less exposure and competition which means recruiting would take a big hit. Do we want to be USD!?! HELL NO!!!!
No Basketball, NO DEAL, No Big East!!!!
Let's make our voices heard!!!

I don't hate the idea as much as some do.
Going to the Big West would not kill our basketball program. It could actually help our recruiting in the LA area (it's already going incredible)
The only difference between the MWC and the Big West now are 2 schools - UNM and UNLV.
We would be the Gonzaga of the Big West. Selling out opposing gyms every game.

Mountain West is just gaining reputation as a basketball conference. SDSU needs to keep good conference competition if we want national respect. UNLV, UNM and us of course are on the rise, if we go to the Big West all we will hear every year is "the are in a garbage conference"

The benefit of college basketball is that because of the tourney perception doesn't matter nearly as much as it does in college football. We would dominate the Big West for years to come and would always have a chance in March Madness. I would just be afraid of what playing in smaller gyms and with less tv support would do to our recruiting.

Winners win.
Win in March, win in the dance. Nothing else matters.

I would much rather have a high seed in March and get an easier path to the finals. I don't want to have to go through the top 6 teams in the nation to win a title when I could face the bottom 6 of the 64 (66 or however many garbage teams are at the bottom).
Better competition makes better teams in my mind and I wanna play that competition regular season, not single elim March.

When Gonzaga started winning in the NCAA tournament, no one thought anything of the WCC. We aren't going ANYWHERE the next three years no matter what (in terms of being a dominant basketball team) Win some more games in the tournament and it won't matter what conference we are in. With the big east contract, we could afford to get teams like Duke and Kansas to play HERE.
When we tell recruits, "hey you are gonna go to the NCAA tournament every year, win 90% of your games, play top 10 teams on your home floor on ESPN, play close to go home and teams close to your home in constant sold out gyms and arenas and have a path to the NBA" they will have forgotten about whatever it means to play in theBig West.

This. Also Memphis in CUSA is a similar example, though not as dramatic as Gonzaga. Also, adding SDSU to the Big West will make at least some of those teams better. Look at what Gonzaga did for St. Mary's and the rest of the WCC. Shit even USD looked good there for a year or two.

The gyms in the Big West are generally putrid....just saying. It's gonna suck for hoops. Period.

I just don't want to commit to a conference that probably won't give us an automatic BCS birth for more than a year and will be a financial wash.

Anyone wanna guess what UCR's gym is called?
The "Student Recreation Center". Swear to God.
It makes CSUFullerton's "Titan Gym" sound cool.

But at least it can hold the whole population of Laramie. Northridge calls their place "the Matadome." What's with the Big West calling normal buildings domes?

I would rather play in a prestigious conference than go to every single road game. That's not a tough decision. Plus it's a much larger gap than slightly lesser arenas. It's everything. Like I said there is no way to sugar coat the basketball side of the move to Big East.

Reportedly, part of the Big East Deal would involve 4 Big East Schools playing against SDSU basketball every year to keep our strength of schedule in BBall strong. Not to mention when the Big East renegotiates their media contract next year, they're going to get in the range of $180-252 mil per year (15-18 per school) in TV revenue. The Big East is the last BCS Automatic Qualifying Conference to renew their media deal. I'm pretty sure the SEC was the last conference to do so and they netted a $2 Billion contract from ESPN for 15 years sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=3553033. This move to the Big East for football would be huge for recruiting in all of our sports...not just football and basketball...because we would have constant exposure from huge media markets: Dallas (SMU), Houston (U of Houston), Orlando (U of Central Florida), Tampa (U of Southern Florida, New York Area (Uconn, Rutgers), Ohio (Cincinati) etc And to ad to that, The MWC is falling apart. In the next two years, two or 3 teams will leave. We don't want to be stuck in a conference that has absolutely no chance of getting any sort of bid to a BCS bid. and to echo @tecprideoo our fans are going to fill opposing gyms in the Big West. Every game will feel like a home game. This Big East deal has been part of an ongoing conversation and I'm sure Steve Fisher is fully aware of all the parts in place. I support the Athletic Department and the University's decision on this. You should too.
