Ok I know we have two more games this season but I am so jacked up on RED and BLACK I read an article about another possible recruit and it got me thinking about scholarship numbers.
Has anyone else has heard the rumors that the 6'6'', 190 lbs, Anthony January may be signing with SDSU? EPSN is saying that the 4 Star recruit out of Compton may have made up his mind once Winston Shepard committed with us? He still has 7 schools on his list but this would be an awesome signing. However, I thought I remembered reading that we don't have any more scholarships to offer? Does anyone know the total number of scholarships we can offer?
I think we currently have 9 scholarship players, Thames, Franklin, Green, Shelton, Rahon, LB Franklin, Tapley, Stephens, Williams? With Green and Shelton leaving that should give us 7.
Then we have transfers Poole and O'Brien and recruits Spencer, Shrigley, and Shepard which would put us at 12 scholarship players next season if I didn't forget anyone.

Yeah we have none. The discussion involves asking AW to transfer but that seems unlikely and a little unclassy. There's no way we will revoke a scholarship due to lack of skill.

There has been a precedent for it in the Fisher era. He won't revoke a guy's schollie, but he will tell them that you will receive zero time on court.

January has said from day one that SDSU is his "Dream School." We held off on offering him in hopes of landing Shepard (which worked out pretty well).
I've read that January has considered going to a prep school for a year then coming out as a part of next year's class. Which would be perfect.

He'll be eligible towards the end of december.

My friends and I have discussed a lot about who and how is going to play next year with all that we have coming in. We all have agreed that AW and LB will get little to no minutes. I don't see AW. Going anywhere but I could see LB transferring to a smaller D1 school and really getting the chance to perform there. We have seen moments from him but until he plays defense and shows consistency I think he could play well in a big west type atmosphere.

If nobody(LB or AW) decides to transfer or leave this would be the ideal scenario. If not I hope he doesn't decide he wants to play right away and signs with another team... unlv was on his list too

The ideal situation is somebody leaving. That being said LB loves this team and is REALLY improving and AW is going to be a senior and i highly doubt he will transfer out to play 1 season somewhere else.
I actually really like LB especially recently. I think he will be VERY IMPORTANT in the tournament next week especially in the first game. He's started to play composed and smart. And he's got such good handles and court vision that he's really setting up some awesome passes for our bigs and guards. He had 5 assists in like 10 minutes last game.
The reality is, January will probably be a good player, but we are already so loaded that I'm not sure we need to compromise our reputation to make room for him. That being said, in coach Fisher I trust.

He's capable of making passes and seeing places on the court that no one else on the team can.

LB has absolutely improved this season but DAMN I would love to see some defense from him. Unless he's in that mode like against New Mexico this year he doesn't give the effort we need. Fisher will make the right decision.

I feel like he's pumped up offensively and defensively whenever he gets PT.

I feel like he's pumped up offensively and defensively whenever he gets PT. He doesn't get around screens well and stands up a lot when guarding his man which puts him at a disadvantage when the guy makes a move. He has it in him to play defense put he needs to be pumped on every possession not just when he gets rolling. Point is where does he fit in on next years team? Sheppard should get some time at point and with X starting there when does LB get in?

I think LB would get similar minutes next year as he does last year. I don't think Shep is going to exclusively PG, not by a long shot. I could see him splitting time with LB in backing up the PG position. We did some similar stuff last year with Kawhi if you recall. I think LB can be a contributor his final 2 seasons.
